So, last week got a little crazy. We spent the whole week at SXSW eating BBQ and watching music pretty much non-stop for 7 days. We kicked the week off right with our first Bonfire Sessions event of the year, and it definitely set the stage for a rowdy week.
Skaters and Team Spirit opened the night, getting the capacity fairly riled up just in time for So Cal rockers WAVVES to take the stage. By the end of the set, security was bracing fans back from the stage. Next up was Japandroids, who took the intensity to a new level. After a flurry of expletives from Japandroids frontman Brian King, concert security brought down the “Berlin Wall” of burly security guards blocking fans from overrunning the stage. Within two songs, and near constant bating from King, the crowd was going nuts, with fans often times being forced up on to stage for a lack of anywhere else to go. It was pure rock and roll and it’s finest.
Divine Fits finished the night, bringing their brand of classic, albeit mellower than the preceding mayhem, indie rock. All in all, an incredible night of music, and a fine example of what the Bonfire Sessions are all about: good music under the stars with your friends, and the chance to see some of your favorite bands without the constraints and hassles of a major concert event.
We’re announcing details for or next Bonfire Sessions, this time in San Francisco, in mid April, and we’ll have some super cool video content from Austin going live very shortly. Stay tuned! I the meantime, check out more photos from the Austin Bonfire Sessions here.
