All good things must come to and end, and SXSW is no exception. We begrudgingly departed Austin yesterday after an incredible week of live music, BBQ and plenty of Fireman’s 4 (ask for it next time you’re in Austin at your favorite local watering hole.)
Before we left Austin, we couldn’t resist making one more poor dietary decision and stopping off at our favorite downtown BBQ joint and inhaling this monstrosity of meat….
Last week, we wrapped up the JanSport SXSW festivities on Friday with our annual day party with Sonicbids. This year’s Battle of the Bands winner’s, Hotfox, kicked off the party to a healthy crowd for noon. If there was any doubt as to whether this band should have taken the prize (there wasn’t), it was put to rest by the end of these guys’ live set. Holy cow. Straight high energy grungy rock and roll at it’s finest. Hotfox made darn sure that anyone within 100 yards of Maggie Mae’s knew that there was some serious rocking going on. The rest of the day was filled out with a highly entertaining lineup of bands hand picked by the Sonicbids team, with the highlight of the day being NYC based Rubblebucket.
There were plenty of other notable shows from the week, and we’ll be featuring some of our favorite new artists in the weeks to come. We’ll also, of course, be adding photos from our first Bonfire Sessions event of the year, which White Denim so graciously made one of the best event thus far.
And let the count down for next year begin….
